Description

Progress Container & Display, a TRG company and affiliate of Schwarz Partners is currently seeking a Safety Manager to support our Winder, GA facility! The Safety Manager is the leader and champion of Progress Container’s safety–first culture. The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving safety strategies throughout the facility. The Safety Manager is also responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, training, ensuring compliance and maintaining health and safety programs and regulations to ensure that the highest degree of Safety for our employees and visitors to our facility.

ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Implement, monitor, direct, and maintain all safety programs to help ensure a safe work environment for all employees and guests.
  • Maintain safety programs ensuring that they are current. Document in detail all safety items such as safety concerns, corrective actions, incident reports with full investigation and resolutions to such matters.
  • Facilitate monthly safety committee meetings and team safety meetings; lead and direct members of the committee in investigation of work-related incidents, identifying root causes and suggesting corrective actions.
  • Responsible for assigning/reporting monthly safety training topics/materials for Supervisors. 
  • Develop safety training program for new hires and work with Human Resources department to conduct training.
  • Develop annual safety and health goals for the facility.
  • Maintain safety records and reports and monitor recordable and lost time incidents in Velocity system.
  • Train and facilitate the principles of safety and safety related processes and initiatives with the Safety team and within the overall facility. Maintains regular on-site presence.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and to identify, monitor, and ensure compliance with various state/federal regulations (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.).
  • Regular and predictable attendance and must be able to work nightshift periodically and on some weekends if needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

OTHER SUGNIFICANT JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Provide leadership, consultation, and advice to all departments on issues related to safety at the plant level.
  • Attend Quarterly Safety Training at other assigned locations when applicable.
  • Coordinate special projects and events to the safety program to increase engagement.
  • Organize participation in all safety functions.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • College degree in related field. Professional experience in lieu of education
  • 3 to 5 years of Safety Experience in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity with safety regulations and guidelines specific to Corrugated or Packaging industry is preferred.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • 2+ years of lean manufacturing experience and demonstrated proficiency in executing operational excellence initiatives.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS (TECHNICAL, CLERICAL, LANGUAGE, ETC.)

  • Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions, training, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. 
  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to solve a variety of problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited information or standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Leadership Attributes – must possess the following: Superior time management skills including the ability to manage multiple issues concurrently and the ability to lead an effective and efficient meeting.  Excellent crisis management who demonstrates that he/she has a high emotional control under adverse conditions and can lead his/her personnel to a successful resolution.  Professional appearance to support his/her role as a managerial representative.
  • Excellent employee relations skills, being an active listener, understanding how to provide both positive and corrective feedback, being able to resolve conflicts either involving directly or as a third party.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS (TECHNICAL, CLERICAL, LANGUAGE, ETC.)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, especially Excel and Word.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Handle changing priorities and use good judgement in stressful situations.
  • Strong presentation skills to large and small groups preferred.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud and it is required that you wear hearing protection. Safety glasses within the plant are also required. Safety shoes are encouraged. Employees must watch where he/she walks to remain safe.
