The Sr. Production Planner role is responsible for planning complex production jobs and special projects to meet cost and service commitments. This role works closely with Sales, Customer Service, Estimating and Manufacturing to ensure project plans meet or exceed cost and delivery expectations. Additionally, this role is responsible to identify special materials and/or external resources needed for the job and collaborate with procurement/outsourcing team to ensure timelines are met. The Sr. Production Planner sets daily priorities for the planning team and works to mitigate and/or escalate risks.

Responsibilities:

  • Sets daily planning priorities for the planning team based on the production schedule; works closely with the Master Scheduler to communicate upcoming changes, rush orders, or delays that may impact the scheduling horizon.
  • Plans complex production jobs and special projects to meet cost and service commitments.
  • Works closely with Sales, Customer Service, Estimating and Manufacturing on all special projects to gain insight into manufacturing requirements and to ensure the job is planned accordingly.
  • Reviews sales order for accuracy of specifications and special attributes and collaborates with Customer Service team members to close gaps as needed.
  • Groups sales orders with like specifications and attributes to determine the best approach to planning and producing the job (single run, tandem, combination)
  • Plans the layouts and production jobs for medium to high complexity jobs utilizing Phoenix planning application and incorporating feedback from manufacturing and prepress.
  • Creates accurate and complete production estimates in alignment with the approved layout, raw material requirements, waste rates, and speeds.
  • Creates manufacturing Job tickets (production orders) and virtual work tickets (where applicable) for complex production jobs and special projects.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, prepress, estimating and customer service as needed to resolve discrepancies and to ensure projects are meeting or exceeding cost and delivery expectation.
  • Identifies orders with special attributes that require outsourcing and collaborates with the outsourcing team to ensure requirements are met.
  • Initiates the requirement for non-standard materials needed to produce the job (paperboard, ink, dies, films, etc.)
  • Provides guidance and training for Planners and New planning team members.
  • Maintains required input data (attributes, assets, raw materials) in the Phoenix application to support optimized job planning for plant.
  • Responsible to demonstrate behaviors that align with company values and put safety first.

What You need to Succeed:

  • Associate’s degree in related field or 5+ years of planning experience in the printing industry required
  • Experience with layout optimization applications and/or prepress modules preferred
  • Technical experience and/or working knowledge of sheet fed printing, die cutting and finishing technologies
  • Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft office suite including Outlook, TEAMs, and Excel spreadsheets. ERP system experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, written, active listening and digital communication.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Manufacturing estimating experience preferred
